Bariatric Transport

PrimeCare Ambulance Services provides specialized bariatric transport for patients weighing over 400 lbs. Our services cover various levels of care, including ALS, BLS, and Critical Care, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience. Transports are carried out using specially designed vehicles and equipment tailored to the unique needs of bariatric patients.

Key Features:

  • Extra-wide stretchers supporting patients between 400 and 1,500 lbs.
  • Ambulances equipped with speed-monitoring and Verizon’s advanced Automatic Vehicle.
  • Location (AVL) systems.
  • Continuous GPS routing integration with PrimeCare’s dispatch software for 24/7 safety and support.
  • Crews consist of at least two PrimeCare professionals certified in ALS and BLS care or in collaboration with critical care teams.
  • Safe, clean, quiet, climate-controlled transport environments.

Bariatric Transport Standards: State of Ohio EMT Guidelines

Below is a summary of the guidelines for transferring and transporting bariatric patients, based on the “State of Ohio Emergency Medical Services Adult Guidelines and Procedures Manual:

  • Patient Weight Over 300 Pounds: Any patient weighing more than 300 pounds requires two full crews (four personnel) for transport.
  • Additional Crew for Weight Over 350 Pounds: PrimeCare Ambulance Services will assign an additional crew member for every 50 to 100 pounds exceeding 350 pounds to ensure safe lifting and handling of the patient.
  • Cot Position: The patient must be loaded onto a cot in the down position, which should remain lowered throughout the transport.
  • Transport Team: Two EMS personnel will accompany the patient in the transport vehicle. If more personnel are required, they will travel in a separate vehicle.
  • Additional Fees: Due to the need for extra crews in bariatric transports, additional fees will apply for each leg of the trip and for every extra crew member required. Please contact us for fee details.
